MPA Rotation Student Starts Today — Introduction to Morgan Mathew

My name is Morgan Mathew. I am a student at the University of Missouri – Kansas City School of Pharmacy and I am so excited to have the opportunity to be an intern at the Missouri Pharmacy Association for the month of July. I am the first student to have a month long rotation here in over 10 years, so I am very eager to jump in and help pave the way and make this a sought after rotation site for future students.

My pharmacy interest sparked when I started working at Alps Pharmacy in Springfield at the age of 18. I didn’t realize this at the time but starting my pharmacy career in an independent pharmacy helped shape the person I am today. It allowed me to develop a deeper knowledge of how a pharmacy operated, a stronger core for expanding and protecting the field of pharmacy, and a heart for the patients I see everyday. I started my undergraduate coursework at Missouri State University and was accepted into UMKC in the fall of 2008 to start my pharmacy coursework. I have been in Kansas City the past four years and am now starting my last year of rotations.

My passion is building relationships with patients and better educating them about their medication therapies. I am excited about where pharmacy is headed and cannot wait to graduate and be a part of the expanded role of a community pharmacist. Throughout this month I hope to see a side of pharmacy I have not experienced before and gain a deeper understanding of what it takes to support the pharmacies of Missouri.
