On Tuesday, April 17 Meetings & Membership Manager, Robyn Silvey and I drove to St. Louis College of Pharmacy to attend their Scholarship Awards Luncheon. As we arrived students, faculty, and staff welcomed us both. We would like to give a special thank you to Marc Long, Brett Schott, John Pieper, and Wendy Duncan for their hospitality and involving the MPA with STLCOP.
This was an amazing experience to see so many generous sponsors help numerous hard working pharmacy students. The sponsors included; Individuals, organizations, and companies, 195 scholarships totaling $421,475 that was presented to 175 students for the 2012-13 academic year.
The Missouri Pharmacy Association was very pleased and proud to present a $1,000 Award to Ricky Patel who demonstrated interest in community practice. Ricky Patel is from Chicago, IL and is a Pharm.D. Candidate for 2013.
During the awards luncheon Joyce Fogelman of the 82’ graduating class is a donor perspective of The Fogelman Scholarship and spoke to us about the importance of scholarships and giving back. She said “it is better to be the person to give than the one that receives” and how thankful she was that she could sponsor students every year.
This years Fogleman Scholarship went to a student, who has a GPA of 3.2 or better and was from either Franklin or Williamson County, Illinois. This award is in honor of her parents, Guy and Eileen Fogleman in the amount of $5,000 to Brooke Stanton.
The MPA is thankful to be a part of this day and would like to say congratulations to all of the students that have worked so hard to receive an award!
